Step-by-Step Process
- 1Wake before sunrise on Saturday and take a clean bath.
- 2Wear clean dark blue or black clothes.
- 3Visit a Peepal tree or Shani temple in the evening.
- 4Light a diya with mustard oil and place it under the Peepal tree.
- 5Offer black sesame, urad dal, blue/black flowers and a small iron item.
- 6Recite Shani Chalisa or chant 'ॐ शं शनैश्चराय नमः' 108 times.
- 7Read Shani Vrat Katha with full devotion.
- 8Donate to the poor — food, oil, black cloth or money — without expectation.
- 9Bow with humility and ask only for the strength to walk the path of dharma.
What to Avoid

- •Avoid cutting hair or nails
- •Do not consume meat, alcohol or onion-garlic
- •Avoid hurting any living being, especially crows, dogs and the poor
- •Do not skip the diya — mustard-oil diya is essential
Importance of Donation
दान on Saturday is the highest form of Shani worship. Feeding the poor, helping the elderly, donating black sesame, oil or warm cloth — these acts please Shani Dev more than any ritual.
